Expensive Keywords: Relevance to Adsense Publishers

Over at FreeAlerts, you'll get to see a list of most expensive keywords available currently by Google Adwords estimations. "Selling structural settlements" topped the list with a single click worth $64.81 but considering the statistics only show a chance of 0.1 clicks/day, you're earning almost nothing if you choose to use that as your content.

However, the interesting bit about this article is the one showing the most profitable keywords i.e. the most clicked ones or the mid-priced ones which still enjoy quite a high click-rate/day. Honestly, I'm not sure if the figures are really correct and through my experience albeit limited, the highest value of clicks that a publisher can get hardly reaches more than US$5 and is more of the region of less than US$1!

Therefore, I thought maybe Google pays according to the regions where they receive the clicks since Adwords offer geo-targeting as one of its features. Perhaps the above estimations are based on the weightage of the 4 regions, where internet penetration/usage are the highest:

So using a formula to calculate the penetration rate and percentage usage of the world to represent the weightage of each region (based on the information here), I got the above pie chart. Subsequently, by grouping the keywords into the following categories, I generated a few more graphs which shows the different average cost/click, average clicks/day and average cost/day graphs:

Categories (ranked from most profitable to the least according to average cost/day):

  • Tourism
  • Insurance
  • Home
  • Education
  • Technology
  • Others
  • Auto
  • Finance

Average Cost/Click:

Average Clicks/Day:

Average Cost/Day:

Surprisingly, we get values which are closer to what most publishers are getting e.g. for the Technology category:

  • Asia: $0.66
  • Europe: $0.77
  • North America: $0.95
  • Oceania: $0.48

I've also done some individual graphs for each region, and here they are:

And to think I was going to go through the process of creating a site about mesothelioma! As a publisher the thought of getting $4-$5.00 per adsense click is what we dream of. Looks like with that stats form FreeAlerts I could make upwards of $4-$5.00 per year! Think I'll get busy on that site…..NOT!!!
