Link Value of Malaysian Blog Aggregators

This post might turn out abit controversial but take note that the methods employed here are very simplistic. Anyway, I am sure most of us here who own a blog submits our feeds/posts to blog aggregators in the hope of getting more visitors to our site but how much are we getting in return in terms of Google's PageRank (PR)?

Well, if we look into Google's original PageRank algorithm, inbound links add to your overall PR "score", where I'll just call it PR+ here. A simplistic calculation would be as follows:

So how do the Malaysian Blog Aggregators fare? [ranked by inbound Google links]

1. Project Petaling Street

Site Stats:

PageRank: 6/10
Alexa Rank: 98,643

Incoming Google Links: 3,530
Incoming Yahoo Links: 54,500
Incoming MSN Links: 50,373
Incoming Alexa Links: 23
Overall Incoming Links: Estimated 94,283 unique links
Outgoing Links: 135

PR+: 0.038

2. SARA

Site Stats:

PageRank: 5/10
Alexa Rank: 1,494,058

Incoming Google Links: 231
Incoming Yahoo Links: 3,220
Incoming MSN Links: 4,545
Incoming Alexa Links: 0
Overall Incoming Links: Estimated 6,953 unique links
Outgoing Links: 89

PR+: 0.048 PR

3. SpyMy

Site Stats:

PageRank: 5/10
Alexa Rank: 93,568

Incoming Google Links: 151
Incoming Yahoo Links: 6,580
Incoming MSN Links: 1,529
Incoming Alexa Links: 0
Overall Incoming Links: Estimated 7,183 unique links
Outgoing Links: 107

PR+: 0.040

If you've gone through the above stats, there seem to be a few surprising facts/trends:

  • SARA has a higher PR+ than PPS
  • SpyMy has a higher Alexa ranking than PPS
  • If PPS reduces the no. of links displayed on the frontpage to 106, it'll achive about the same PR+ as SARA.
  • It seems that if you have >100 inbound Google links, you'll get a PR5 and >1000 to get a PR6.

Well, I'm not here to say which of the blog aggregators is better and personally I feel all of them have done a good job of making the Malaysian blogosphere more vibrant & colourful. Anyway, now you roughly know the link value of the various blog aggregators shouldn't you start submitting your feeds/posts to them?

As for my non-Malaysian readers, try applying them to your own local blog aggregators and do link back here so we can just have a look and see if there are any anomalies =)

I have a four month old site with 340 inbound links but a 0/10 page rank. How do you achieve page rank?
