Wordpress SEO: First Steps
In order to simplify the process of optimising your Wordpress blog, I have compiled all the information here. The steps below should be very easy to follow and does not require any difficult change of codes but before you begin, I would recommend reading this:
I have identified 5 important parts to optimising your Wordpress blog and broken them down into smaller chunks of information for easy digestion. Feel free to implement them in any order you like:
1. Permalinks - changing your Wordpress permalinks to be search-engine friendly
2. Page Title - improve the readability of your blog posts
3. Google Sitemaps - creating a sitemap for your blog
4. Tagging & Meta Keywords - implementing tags on your blog and how to use them as meta keywords.
5. Site Submissions - submit your site to blog directories, aggregators, etc.
I hope you find them useful.

I love to see people helping people with WordPress SEO topics.
I would like to share a WordPress SEO plugin I developed that helps increases SEO exposure for many of the WordPress being published right now.
It optimizes titles, meta tags, and the auto discovery links for RSS and Atom feeds on your blog.
You can get it here at: Wordpress SEO plugin

I noticed you mentioned using tags for the meta description. I did something different at Pigeon Forge that pulls a posts excerpt and uses it as the meta description. I know theres talk about meta descriptions and keywords not being as effective in search engines these days, but I did it more for the user. A user is more likely to click a link in a search if it sounds interesting based on the title of the link and the description, so using a strong meta description rather than having a search engine guess or using simple tags is so much more effective…at least that's what I've found.
Great stuff!
July 16th, 2006 05:19
Hi, I actually used the tags for meta keywords, and excerpts for meta description =)
all can be done via the Tags in the Head plugin I recommended.

I see a lot of articles giving advice on SEO, but how much or how big of part is Onpage optimization?
When lloking at it compared to Offsite SEO, establishing One Way links back to your site?
November 27th, 2006 17:44
well, actually popular pages in your website/blog has their own PR, so if there's a particular high PR for a certain page, make sure your other links to other pages are highly visible also. not only for googlebot but also for your visitors.
November 29th, 2006 06:04
Wow, cool site.. I am creating a website. Should I add a blog too or just keep my website? Do you have both?. Thanks for response.
November 29th, 2006 09:06
you can do both, add a blog if you intend to update frequently, or you say something personal or intend to make your site interactive.
